Frequently asked questions.

General Questions

  • Alderwick Adventures is designed for kids of all ages, but the sweet spot is 6–11 (elementary age). The letters can be enjoyed by any age, and the activities are flexible enough to fit a wide range of ages.

Each month, we also suggest a book that aims for mid-elementary independent reading level, but works equally as well as a read-aloud. Don't worry if your child has already read the book or needs a different level—your monthly email will include alternative recommendations and activities you can personalize to your child’s reading level and your family’s schedule.

  • Not exactly—it’s not meant to replace a full history curriculum. Think of it as a fun, story-based supplement. The letters add depth and spark curiosity, while the included activities and resources help you tie the stories into whatever history program you’re already using.

  • The American History series takes kids from the Pilgrims’ Mayflower voyage through the Civil Rights Movement. The 12 adventures are:

    1. The Mayflower Voyage

    2. Colonial Print Shop with Ben Franklin

    3. Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride

    4. Valley Forge Winter with Washington’s Army

    5. Lewis & Clark Expedition

    6. Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad

    7. Pony Express Adventure

    8. Statue of Liberty

    9. Wright Brothers’ First Flight

    10. Dust Bowl Perseverance

    11. Apollo 11 Moon Landing

    12. Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington

If you select a 6 month plan, Early American will include adventures 1-6, while Late American will include adventures 7-12.

What’s Included

  • Each subscription includes 14 envelopes over 12 months (a Welcome Pack, 12 adventure letters, and a final completion reward) or 8 envelopes over 6 months (a Welcome Pack, 6 adventure letters, and a final completion reward).

    Welcome Pack:

    • First adventure letter (how Pip the mouse discovers the magic Finder’s Compass).

    • Personalized membership card.

    • Artifact passport (like an eye-spy game hidden in the letters).

    • Star map to track progress.

    • A special bookmark gift.

    Monthly Letters:

    • A letter from Pip about his latest time-traveling adventure.

    • A star sticker for the star map.

    • A small artifact (like a Mayflower map or Pony Express letter).

    • A “Star Quest” card with optional activities (book, music, poem, simple project).

    • A monthly email with extra resources, book alternatives, and history-related links (like virtual tours or videos).

    End of Year:

    • A certificate of completion with wax seal.

    • Fun bonus gifts and surprises.

  • We love siblings learning together! Instead of buying a whole separate subscription, you can add siblings for just $3 per month (or $14 per 6 months or $20 per year). Each child will receive their own membership card, end-of-year certificate, star quests, stickers, and activities—while still sharing one monthly adventure letter.

  • Star Quest activities are completely optional—they're a fun way to extend learning beyond reading the letter. Each monthly Star Quest includes:

    • One book to read (with alternative level suggestions in your email)

    • A piece of music from the time period

    • A poem to read together

    • A simple themed activity or project.

You can use these activities for your child to "earn" their monthly star sticker, or simply take them as inspiration. It's totally up to you!

  • Totally up to you! You can:

    • Keep it simple—just read the monthly letter and award a star.

    • Do some or all of the Star Quest activities.

    • Dive deeper using the bonus resources in your monthly email (virtual tours, crafts, videos, etc.).

Subscription, Pricing, & Shipping

  • A subscription is $15 per month, with an optional sibling add-on for $3 per month per additional child.

If you choose a 6 month or yearly plan, you save 16% (just $75 for 6 months or $150 for the whole year). Sibling add-ons are $14 per 6 months per child or $20 per year.

  • Absolutely! Alderwick Adventures makes a wonderful gift.

To gift a subscription, simply choose one of our Gift Packages. This includes everything in a regular subscription—Welcome Pack, monthly adventure letters, artifacts, activities, and end-of-year certificate—delivered straight to the child’s mailbox.

    At checkout:

Shipping Address: Be sure to enter the recipient’s name and mailing address so their letters go directly to them.

Email Address: When you add the gift package to your cart, it will prompt you to enter the email where we will send the monthly supplement emails.

And to make the gift even more special, at checkout you’ll also have the option to add a small gift item so the child has something to unwrap right away while waiting for their first adventure letter.

  • Monthly plan: Cancel anytime.

Yearly plan: Cancel within 48 hours for a full refund. Cancel within 30 days for a 75% refund (you’ll still keep the Welcome Pack and Month 1 letter).

If you are unsure if the letters will be a good fit for your family, we suggest starting with the monthly plan.

  • Welcome Pack: Ships 1–2 weeks before your chosen start month.

Monthly letters: Ship around the 5th of each month.

Order deadlines: To start in a given month, order by the 20th of the previous month. (Example: Order by August 20 to start in September. Orders placed after August 20 will start in October.)

  • Yes! International shipping is available. The charge is based on postage rates (currently about $1.70 per letter, though USPS rates may change).

  • Not yet—but we’re considering it for the future! Right now, Alderwick Adventures is designed as a hands-on, mail-based experience where kids receive physical letters, artifacts, and activities in the mail each month.

We’ve had requests for a digital-only version (to reduce shipping costs or make it easier for international families), so this may be something we expand into later. If that’s something you’d love, please let us know—we love hearing from families about what would make Alderwick Adventures even better.

  • We know how special these letters are to your child, and we want every one to arrive safely. Unfortunately, once a letter leaves our hands, it’s in the care of the postal system, and delays or mishaps can sometimes happen.

    Here’s how we handle it:

Missing Mail: If your letter hasn’t arrived within 30 days of the ship date, please reach out to us at [email]. We’re happy to resend the letter one time (up to 2 replacements in a 12-month period).

Damaged Mail: If your letter arrives damaged, send us a photo at [email] within 30 days of shipping. We’ll gladly send a replacement or issue a refund—whichever you prefer.

Incorrect Addresses: Please double-check your shipping information before placing your order. We are unable to refund or replace letters sent to an incorrect address provided at checkout.
